Hat Trick of Wins Worldwide for Korean Men
10/03/2009
Korean men’s golf is flying high this season; first, American/Korean Anthony Kang won the Malaysian Open, co-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours, then 18-year-old Korean-born New Zealand amateur won the prestigious Johnnie Walker Classic in Australia and now YE Yang has made the big breakthrough with a maiden PGA Tour victory in the USA.
Yang won the prestigious US$5.6million Honda Classic in Florida thanks to a final two-under-par 68 for a nine-under-par 271 total to finish one shot ahead of American John Rollins for his breakthrough victory in the US, the biggest cheque of his career to date worth US$990,000 and into the top 10 of the FedEx Rankings.
With that win, the Korean has now qualified for next week’s World Golf Championship-CA Championship at Doral and also earned an invitation to next month’s Masters.
Yang’s compatriot, Charlie Wi, winner of the 2001 Volvo China Open, finished tied for ninth whilst 2003 Volvo Masters winner Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden tied for fifth place.
